NON-REMASTERED RECYCLED HITS PACKAGE WITH SUB-STANDARD AUDIO
Although this CD was released in 2001, it is simply a recycled "Tears Roll Down: Greatest Hits '82-'92 from 1992, with new packaging and added tracks. All content on this CD exists in remastered form on the individual, content-expanded UK-import TFF CD's, also released in 2001: The Hurting Songs From The Big Chair Seeds Of Love This CD is a great collection of songs, but from an audio standpoint, the difference is not subtle: The remasters sound like a heavy cloth removed from the speakers, compared to the older masters on this CD. Universal obviously wanted to pilot-fish the momentum off the import remastered releases by tossing this re-packaged, older-mastered package into the market at the same time: By releasing this set in the same calendar year as the remasters, a lot of buyers might be fooled into thinking they were getting the newly-remastered content. This seems to be a disturbing trend on the part of Universal: Re-packaging pre-existing, sonically inferior, greatest hits CD's with new artwork and a few added tracks. MAY 2013 UPDATE: There seems to be at least one "comments" nincompoop who just couldn't seem to grasp my review, although by the voting above, it seems the vast majority of readers were far more discerning (I certainly thought it was succinct, but you can't please everyone). So, let me re-spell this out as clearly as I possibly can: The original TFF Greatest Hits package came out in 1992; it was remastered for that release. Universal, doing the do-it-on-the-cheap-corporate-two-step, used that same 1992 mastering, along with new artwork and a few added tracks, for this release. However, if you buy any/all of the above individual TFF 2001 titles I listed above, you will get newly-updated 2001 mastering, which sounds light-years better than the audio on this disc. Hopefully, that will clarify the issue... not that it needed clarification, but there you have it.
