I am recovering from shoulder surgery and am quite limited in what I can do for the next several months. My physical therapist recommended using a recumbent bike to stay in shape so after doing some research, I purchased the Schwinn model 250. This is a decision I regret. Assembling the 250 with one arm was a bit on the difficult side but after a few hours, struggles and help from my wife, my new bike appeared to be ready to go, or so I thought. For the record, this is now the second Schwinn exercise bike that I have purchased (make that "tried" to purchase) in the past five years and as with the previous model, the product arrived defective and could not be used. The pedal crank on my 250 series is locked in place and does not move forward. When I called Schwinn looking for some help, thinking I did something wrong during assembly, the rep was already well aware of this defect with the 250 series as they have evidently received a number of other calls from consumers complaining of the same issue. The CSR stated that any rough handling of the 250 during transit can cause the crank to lock up. The box and the contents arrived undamaged so I am really not sure what constitutes "rough handling". What I find more troubling however, is that while the Schwinn CSR's are courteous and quite knowledgeable, their follow up skills leave a great deal to be desired. Schwinn promised to send out a new part and schedule a service call (at their expense) to get the bike working but it is now two weeks later and no part or service call. Follow up emails to Schwinn have gone unanswered. Instead of a recumbent bike that I was eager to use to stay in shape while recovering from surgery, I am left with a large, non-operational boat anchor and a manufacturer who does not seem to care about their customers. I am hoping the good folks at Amazon will take this back in it's current, assembled state, as I really do not want to take everything apart to send it back. My advice to anyone else that may be considering the Schwinn 250 recumbent bike? Don't bother and get something from one of Schwinn's competitors instead.
