Don't use with Apple Products. Or Ravpower. Or some Anker products.
I wanted to love this product, because on paper, it is exactly what I was looking for and the absolute best specs I could find for its weight. I own several Anker battery packs and they are great, and I would love a good solar charger for backpacking. But this wasn't it. The first issue was that it is incompatible with Apple products. Using the stock Apple charging cable that works fine in the wall, I plugged my iphone into this to charger and it says "This accessory may not be supported". I read a review on the 14W anker charger that says it should still be charging anyway despite that, so I let it run. The problem is, it keeps repeatedly vibrating and informing me that it is not supported. Not every minute, but every 3 seconds, without exaggeration. The phone ends up draining battery even faster than when it isn't plugged in, because the screen keeps turning on and vibrating. Ok so that failed. Lets try my ipad, different cable. Same issue. In and out charging even in full, unimpeded direct sunlight. Blah. Ok I can deal with that, I don't bring my ipad backpacking. I try out my Anker Battery pack and Ravpower battery pack. The Anker seems to be working. Success! I try the Ravpower, charges for 3 seconds, then stops completely. Not even blinking or in-and-out, just stops. I unplug it and replug it, charges for 3 seconds, stops. Ok, This is still the best spec solar charger for its weight, I can buy a new Anker battery pack to replace my Ravpower, but let me try my hiking buddy's Anker pack before doing that... and no luck. Same issue as Ravpower. I called Anker, they said it is defective, and sent me a new one free of charge, and even paid return shipping. Very impressed with the customer service. It arrived 3 days after I put the defective one in the mailbox, they must've overnight-ed it. Even more impressed. I try it out, same problems. Ugh. I try looking around online, and every thread on Anker's forums that people discuss the "accessory not supported" issue is deleted by Anker, you only see the cached portions on google search. Ok, not so impressed by Anker anymore, since they're censoring discussion about problems with the charger. Not cool. Don't take my word for it, try searching "Anker solar accessory may not be supported" and click any of the links on anker's forums. Really bummed about this one, as it sounded too good to be true. Too bad it actually was too good to be true.
