$100 for a Beta Test?
Wow- this is buggy! And let me say how excited I was about this device. I even sold my Nvidia Shield TV because I didn't need the gaming aspects of it. Amazon's new Fire TV looked like a wonderful and inexpensive means to get UHD out of Netflix and Amazon. And then!!! I get my HBO Go too.
But wow, I am very disappointed to say the least.
Let me break my problems down -
I switched from the NVidia Shied TV (worked wonderfully) to this device because I wanted something for video streaming. But so far, my expectations have been met only with disappointment. Why?
-My stuff: Pioneer 830k (receiver), Sony 65XBR850A (4K TV). I am running the Amazon Fire TV to the Pioneer 830k and then the receiver to my one 4K 2.22 compliant HDMI input. Again, worked flawlessly with my Shield TV.
..... my issues:
-When I load up a Amazon Prime 4K video, it looks and sounds great! BUT! When I leave the video, the screen goes black. I have to power off my receiver and turn it back on to be at the Fire TV menu again. Oh and sometimes, I can get back the menu without having to power cycle the receiver but 9/10, I am unable to.
-Netflix is giving me 4K but no 5.1? HUH? Others are reporting this issue too. When folks ask about this issue, they are offered a refund for their box. Does Amazon really think it's acceptable for folks to use a 4K streaming box without 5.1 to Netflix? How did the early reviewers miss this vital flaw?
........... suffice to say, I hope this is software-related and to see incoming patches because the box is neat! I want to keep it but right now, it's half baked and I feel like I have paid $100 for beta testing a product for Amazon. Or it's hello Roku 4 or Shield TV.
Oh and don't bother calling Amazon for help, their technical assistance (spoke to two agents) didn't even know this product was released. Heck, someone took 10 minutes, yes 10 minutes, to look up that I did, in fact, ordered this unit from Amazon.
