Came home one day to find a fire had started in the apartment below mine. My home was filled with black smoke. In a panic, I removed my animals while calling 911 and initially assumed the batteries had died as the home had been empty for about 4 hours prior to my return, and didn't think anything of it. When my insurance adjuster came to assess the damage, I decided to test the detectors and they all had plenty of battery! They simply didn't go off. I had four of them in my home - one in each of three bedrooms and another in my dining room, which is where the smoke was thickest. They simply did nothing when I needed them the most. At such an exorbinant price per unit, this is positively absurd!
