Jagged lines; insufficient Driver support; nonexistent Customer Support.
So far I am completely horrified by everything about this purchase. For further context, I have an old Wacom Bamboo MTE-450 that I've had since 2006 or so, and it's served me very well and held up GREAT over the years. I have spent the last 9 years singing Wacom's praises and recommending their products to everyone as a result. My Bamboo was only giving me a minor, occasional lag problem in Photoshop that I figured may have been due to outdated drivers that no longer get updates--while my OS X, Photoshop CC, etc., are constantly kept up-to-date--so I figured, hey, time to upgrade to a modern product. Although I am a professional artist (graphic designer and occasional illustrator by trade; comic artist by hobby), I have never needed anything more sophisticated or larger than the Bamboo. And since I live in New York City with limited desk space, I prefer small devices. I got the Intuos Comic instead of the Draw for its bundled software and disabled the touch feature. I like to keep it simple. However, even with the latest drivers for this model (or for that matter with ANY of the drivers for this model), the Intuos Comic cannot draw curved lines properly. Instead, they appear as multiple little straight lines connected at angles. Lines that are almost straight but slightly angled or curved jump quite suddenly from one row of pixels to the next, so that they produce very obviously "stepped" lines. If you google about the "jagged line" problem with Wacom tablets, you can find a lot of people complaining of this same problem on the internet...however, most (all??) seem to be Windows users. Very puzzling, honestly--and I have experienced the same problem on two different Macs, on OS X Yosemite and OS X El Capitan, with Photoshop CC 2015 and with Clip Studio Paint. Meanwhile, my Bamboo still draws curved lines properly and always has, on every computer--PC and Mac--and every operating system I have ever used it with (so long as the proper drivers were installed). The solutions suggested by/for those other folks on the internet having this problem with other Wacom models seem to center around two things: 1) do a bunch of Windows-specific mumbo jumbo in your (Windows) system settings, and/or 2) install a legacy (a.k.a. older) driver. HOWEVER, be warned that THIS line of tablets just came out in August/September, and therefore has no compatible drivers any older than that. I haven't yet tested every single driver Wacom has ever made for every single product, but it seems there ARE no legacy drivers compatible with the Intuos Draw/Comic/Art/Photo line. It gets worse! Contacting Wacom Customer Support has been completely futile. They offer no chat option for contacting support, and their phone line only operates during Monday-Friday business hours (i.e., while I am at work!) Submitting a customer support ticket has so far only gotten me a "Thanks for submitting this ticket, you'll hear back in 1-2 business days" (and I assume if they give me an unhelpful answer I'll need to wait another 1-2 business days for further communication to happen? completely unacceptable) and no response yet. I've been on their support forums detailing my problem and the progress of it for a week and so far have been completely ignored by any Wacom support reps, even though I can see they have been answering other people's posts and addressing other problems. It still gets worse! Honestly, I have been very happy with the bundled Clip Studio Paint software, and have been comforting myself with the reminder that the software alone was worth--to me, I mean; it actually retails for $50--the $100 that so far I feel has been a waste on the tablet itself. (I haven't tried the Anime Studio software yet, but I'm guessing I'd be similarly pleased with it...but I don't want to get attached yet; see below.) However! Through the course of trying to address these tablet issues (and even worse tablet issues that came up when I installed OS X El Capitan), one of the last-ditch efforts that Apple's (far superior and more helpful and more easily reachable btw) support team instructed me to do was replace my OS X, which means erasing the hard drive. I have my stuff backed up, yes, but it seems I will need to reinstall all my software...and by the way YOU ONLY GET 2 DOWNLOADS OF THE BUNDLED SOFTWARE EVER. Meaning I have already consumed one, will need to consume my other when I get home to put everything back onto my hard drive, and if I ever need to replace my OS X again?? I will be SOL. So I bought Clip Studio Paint elsewhere and will most likely be returning this tablet. Now I am honestly afraid of trusting in Wacom products again. Their customer support is absolutely terrible, and IMO that is completely, totally, utterly unacceptable for products that cost so much money. For years I'd been telling people that Wacom is so good it's worth costing twice as much as any of its competitors, but honestly, I think that may have been the Wacom of the past and that in the decade since my Bamboo was made they have likely become complacent with their status as the "top brand" and relying on customer loyalty instead of continuing to produce a superior product to back that up. Maybe it's just a fluke...maybe it's just MY tablet, since I can't seem to find ANY other Mac users on the internet having my problems, let alone with this brand new Intuos Draw/Art/Comic/Photo line...but you know what? I may never even be able to get to the bottom of that because Wacom's Customer Support is almost completely unreachable, and that possibly disgusts me even more than the money and the time that I wasted on this entire fiasco. I'll keep this review updated with my progress and my experience, if I can edit it. Buy at your own risk, but know that if you are having any problems whatsoever with your expensive product, Wacom will not be there to assist you with it at all.
