Buyer Beware Fan Failure
First off great product, horrible engineers, one week after purchasing this I had to take it out of commission. The bearings in the fans blew out making it sound like a chainsaw. I threw out the box and did not want to go through the hassle of purchasing a box just to ship it back. I opened it up and found that they used the cheapest fans you can purchase. They are called sleeve bearings, and if you have never worked with computer cooling or fans you may not know what the purpose of a sleeve bearing fan is for so let me explain (from Wikipedia):
"Sleeve bearings are less durable at higher temperatures as the contact surfaces wear and the lubricant dries up, eventually leading to failure; however, lifetime is similar at relatively low ambient temperatures. Sleeve bearings may be more likely to fail at higher temperatures, and may perform poorly when mounted in any orientation other than vertical."
If this uses a heater to dry out shoes why would you put something that is susceptible to damage at high heat? Not only that they are mounted horizontally not vertically which drastically reduces the life of these fans. The better option in this case would have been a SSO bearing:
"Thanks to an optimized principle of operation, the self-stabilizing oil-pressure bearing (SSO bearing) surpasses current types of ball, sleeve or liquid bearings in terms of long-term stability and quietness."
However, a ball bearing fan would have sufficed:
"Though generally more expensive, ball bearing fans do not suffer the same orientation limitations as sleeve bearing fans, are more durable at higher temperatures, and are quieter than sleeve-bearing fans at higher rotation speeds. The typical lifespan of a ball bearing fan may be over 60,000 hours at 50 °C"
Overall a great product but seriously why would you skimp out on the only moving part in your product. I was able to purchase a ball bearing fan to replace the defective (not really defective but incorrect use of the type of fan). It did take a little re-wiring in order to make it work with the end cap they used, and also for wire length. If you purchase this just know you will be returning it quickly or replacing the fans as I did.
