I have read the WOT series numerous times and this "adaptation" is in the same vein as the recent Star Wars trilogy. Obviously done by people who don't understand the story and indeed, seem to hate it but are equally obsessed with Game of Thrones as a model of fantasy. Where to start? Casting: Moraine - she certainly looks the part and is a talented actress. What a waste. Lan - meh - he needs to be scarred up a lot more and has no personality. But hey, he and Moraine get naked in a hot tub, because reasons and story and stuff. Pathetic. Rand - looks like Hayden Christiansen from Star Wars but with less acting ability. But a young man who has worked on a farm his whole life wouldn't be a pasty soy boy who looks like he moisturizes his face every night. Big meh. Mat - my favorite character from the books. No, he shouldn't have a beard and shouldn't be a petty thief who has a lecherous father and alcoholic mother. He should also have a fun personality or indeed just any personality. Did these guys even read the books? Perrin - again, horribly miscast. Should not be taller than Rand, should not be married (and definitely not kill his wife!), should not have a beard, and should look like a bodybuilder. Egwene - horribly miscast. No, she and Rand don't sleep together - ever. Boring. Nynaeve - another terrible miscast. No, she is not a potential Dragon Reborn nor a T'averen! No, she wasn't brought to the Two Rivers as a child - that is Rand and Rand alone. But hey, gotta throw a bone to the blue-haired feministas! Who cares about the story when you can make political points? Myddraal - they are frightening in the books because they look human apart from having no eyes. Don't need a mouthful of nasty teeth. Pathetic. Padan Fain - I could almost buy the actor as Fain as he has the right creepy vibe. Again - a waste of talent. As to the story itself? Well it is more like bad fan fiction from talentless hacks who are more interested in wokeness and "diversity" rather than a good story. The introduction tells nothing of the Dark One, how he was released from his prison (by a woman no less!), Lews Therin Telamon - the Dragon, the War of Power, the 13 Forsaken, nor the sealing and the tainting of male half of the source. Just a generic - "men did bad stuff and only the waaamens should have the power blah, blah, blah". I honestly kept skipping ahead just to see any redeeming qualities. Waste of time. Oh, and the whole throwing Egwene off a cliff into the water after braiding her hair to show she is a woman? Were the writers drunk? I knew this would be bad but didn't imagine it would be this terrible. A lot of the 5 star reviews are just polishing a turd. "iT's jUsT aN aDaPtAtIoN aNd tHaT's nOt bAaAaD!!!! Derp, derp, derp!!" Yes, yes it is bad. It is terrible. The awful Shannara "adaptation" was better than this dreck. The woke crowd has no imagination and no talent. They just want to despoil good things because they can do nothing else. In the words of the immortal Iowahawk: “Take a respected institution. Kill it. Gut it. Wear its carcass as a skin suit. And demand respect.”
