★★☆☆☆
Good story but anachronisms are nagging
I’m a third through this book and, while the story is interesting, especially daily life in the Frankfurt ghetto, there are glaring anachronisms. For example the narrator describes a distance in kilometres. The metric system wasn’t used at that time in Germany. She also applies lipstick before her wedding. I don’t believe for a moment a young Jewish woman in a ghetto would use lipstick and any makeup for that matter, yet she mentions tears ruining her makeup. There’s also use of the word infrastructure which seems bizarre for someone writing in the 1770's. Basic research and editing work would have caught those.
