Upon opening the unit, it looked amazing. But when I started touching the weather station itself it felt cheap and rattled as if something was broken. When I investigated the noise it ended up being that the water gauge wasn't fastened and in pieces floating around in the unit. I found the pieces and put it together in the believed places. When I got it all hooked up and working I found the lightening detector was going nuts! It was reading over 300 strikes in less than 30 mins of being hooked up (Note its December in NY). I tried calling the acutite number given in the package and that number has been disconnected. I called Amazon for support and explained my issues and what I have don't to try and solve the issue. She said it must be defective and ordered a replacement. I tried everything to solve the lightening strike issue. I moved the unit, reset the device, removed and replaced the lightening detector, even swapping the lithium batteries for regular batteries. I will admit replacing the batteries lowered the rate at which the false reading are coming in greatly but its still reporting false strikes every 5 mins instead of every 10 seconds. I don't know if it had to do with the batteries or the positioning of the unit. I googled the issue and I'm glad I'm not the only one with this issue. I like the over all shell design for accuracy and design for snow load. The website and app need a little work. I registered the device but apparently misspelled my e mail address so now my device is unaccessable and I can't reregister. A simple solution would have been to confirm your e mail address. I will update my review when I receive the replacement and its hooked. *Update* 4 days later I received my replacement acurite atlas and upon opening the box the hub came in the hub was damaged. I didn't even bother opening the rest of the package and asked Amazon for a refund for both weather stations. The worst part is Amazon tech support is only helpful with very basic questions and acurite no longer has a number to reach a human! Acurite is selling garbage and not even providing help for the garbage. O and good luck trying to utilize any warranty.
