★☆☆☆☆
Heavily censored by Christian Beliefs. SKIP THIS.
The beauty of Nahuatl is that any word can essentially be created by correctly combining and adjusting stem words, using the proper conjugations and supplementing the appropriate prefixes and suffixes. This book accommodates the need for many common day words of the present world that we live in by effectively doing what I initially started this review with - which is partly why this dictionary has so many words. However, something was extremely off and outright missing from this book: I could INSTANTLY discern by quickly scanning this dictionary that the author had a religious background (unfortunately, as most Nahuatl scholars do); anything frowned upon by Christianity is NOT MENTIONED IN THIS BOOK. You will not find words like: healer, ritual, priestess, shaman, divining/divination OR LITERALLY ANY AZTEC GOD FOR THAT MATTER... (WHAT?) the list of taboo Christian words (painfully and obviously) omitted goes ON. I mean, how can you *seriously* publish a book and completely exclude religious words that were heavily used and valued by this civilization? The author went to Catholic seminary school and graduated from many Catholicism centric educational systems. I find it extremely sad that the author chose to perpetuate his religious beliefs into the creation of this dictionary as a futile way to *preserve* (yikes, dare I say) Nahuatl but instead, he chose to heavily censor it. Don’t get this book.
