★★☆☆☆
Less reliable that something 1/5th the price
It functions when they allow it to, but their development team and QA on the software side is beyond incompetent. They did something causing an outage, and since I was about to head out of town for a couple days I filled up the feeder and noticed it had lost its connection. Followed the company provided troubleshooting instructions and tested multiple possible issues, finally resorting to their recommendation to factory reset the unit (wiping out future scheduled feedings) to attempt to resolve. After this failed, I called customer service, according to their provided troubleshooting instructions- to find out that it was a server side issue, that they’d been aware for several hours but had not notified any of the owners of an outage. So now I have a factory reset unit that won’t dispense what it’s supposed to because I can’t connect to fix to the proper feeding amounts, and I’m leaving town for three days in an hour. Going to have to let them free feed, which means probably a couple piles of cat puke and some fatter cats when I return.
I don’t know that I can trust it when I’m out of town, because who knows if they will screw up something server side and force a reset or cause issues in the future, even without me doing a reset? And the complete lack of notification when they were aware of an outage cost me an hour of wasted time troubleshooting- they have an app, it would have cost them nothing to pop a notification that they are having issues, not to factory reset and it will continue dispensing normally, but they didn’t.
So for something that costs so much and justifies it by being ‘smart’, I don’t think I can trust them to not break the software at opportune moments and make this less reliable than some of the mechanical auto feeders that are 1/5th the price.
