Great concept, terrible execution!
The concept of this toy is great, but the design is flawed. You stick swords in, and one of the random holes will trigger the pirate to pop-out. However, the trigger point is FIXED to the position of the pirate. It is NOT random, no matter how many times you twist the pirate the trigger point will always be on the side of the pirate, not the front or the back.
The pirate can only be inserted 2 ways, there are two grooves on the bottom of the pirate, one front and one back that latches on to the trigger mechanism inside the barrel. Which means, when you are twisting the pirate you already know where the trigger point is. Which defeats the purpose of the game.
Second flawed design is that there are top and bottom row of sword insertion points. The way the mechanics of this toy was designed, it doesn't need two rows, because the trigger point doesn't alternate between top or bottom row. Where the trigger is, both the top and bottom will trigger the action.
You know front and back is not the trigger points. The top and bottom hole is the same.
I wish this toy was completely random, and I wish the trigger point alternates between top and bottom row. Returning this game because it doesn't work as it was intended.
