Can't take the heat of intense reflected sunlight.
I first bought the 8' version in Mocha of the Coolaroo Roller Shade, and really loved the look of it, so I bought the 6' version in Mocha to shade another part of my pergola. Initially, they both looked great, but after coming home from a sunny, 85-degree day in Southern California, I noticed that the 6' Coolaroo Roller Shade had a peculiar wrinkle in it, that wasn't there at installation. With a little detective work, it was determined that the reflected sunlight off a neighbor's double-pane window was tracing a very bright, high-intensity beam of light onto the shade, and had actually started melting the high-density polyethylene (HDPE) material. The curtain material is made from thin strips of HDPE woven together. I think a caveat should be added to the manufacturer's item description that states that the product can endure direct sunlight, but high-intensity reflected sunlight from windows can damage the product. The melting shade is the only complaint I have against the product. Everything else, from the hardware, crank, roll-up mechanism, brackets, etc. is high-quality. The installation instructions are clear, and the unit is easy enough for one handy, experienced do-it-yourself-er to install alone, with careful measurements. I intend to salvage the unit, and look around to find a more robust curtain material to replace the Coolaroo plastic fabric, maybe some kind of solar screen material.
