Terrible Quality. Much too thin to be REALLY 800 Thread count sheets.
I've owned 800TC sheets and 600TC sheets and I've compared both of them to these sheets and they were both MUCH thicker than this. Bedding manufacturers often misrepresent actual thread counts on sheets, or calculate the thread count in a different way to up the number. Unfortunately this seems to be the case here. As soon as I opened the package and felt the sheets, I knew something was off. Sheets in the high 600 to 1000 thread count should feel heavy, supple, and soft. These definitely are soft and have a nice sateen sheen to them (they are using a sateen weave that shows long threads in one direction giving them a nice glossy sheen) but the thickness makes me think they are much less than 800TC. If you want reasonably nice sheets, buy these. However I would not count them to be durable or get softer over time like real Egyptian cotton sheets at high thread counts.
**update**
Mayfair Linen contacted me about my review and proactively sent me what they called "new" sheets in order for me to revise my review. What I got were USED sheets that came in a plastic bag. Upon inspection there was a huge hole in it! The sheets I got were WORSE than the sheets I originally got and were extremely rough and super scratchy. They're exactly the opposite of what high 800 thread count sheets should be - rough, scratchy, and pilled. Moving my nail along the sheets I can feel the fabric fray and scrape meaning the fibers were cheap short fibers twisted together. Assuming these are what these sheets will be after prolonged use, I am now confident in my original assessment that these are NOT quality Egyptian cotton sheets at high thread counts. Quality Egyptian cotton are long fibers that allow for finer threads that create tighter high thread count weaves that are smooth and soft. Over time they will get softer with use and definitely do not pill. Pilling is a sign of cheap threads with multiple interweaved short fibers intended to artificially inflate thread counts. While I appreciate the company went to lengths to try to satisfy their customers, in the end the product is awful. Please don't waste your money on these. Buy real Egyptian cotton fabric.
*New update**
I emailed Mayfair Linen in August 2016 and told them that the sheets they sent me were used and had a hole in them. The customer service blamed Amazon about damaged barcodes that couldn't be read. They also said verbatim: "We will now send you sheets directly from our manufacturing unit so that confusion of this kind is avoided." It is now January 2017. Still nothing.
