Leaky Caddy
Do to a lack of response from the manufacture/vendor, I felt obligated to share my concerns. To whom it may concern: RE: Liquor Caddy I received your email one day before I was planning to post this review on Amazon. I hope that my finding will help improve the quality of parts used to improve customer satisfaction and overall sales to your Liquor Caddy. First and foremost let’s recognize that this purchase to the average person will come across as a waste of their money. The primary reasons why the average person will post a negative review for this item on Amazon is due to leakage. Despite of reading many posts (50-60%) on how this item tends to leak resulting in a loss of booze, I figured since I love challenges, I will give it a try and fix it if need be. I read all the instructions and directions for use and after 5 minutes of loading my last bottle, the leaks started. To be exact, 5 out of the 6 dispensers were leaking, that’s a fail rate of 83.3%. No wonder people dislike this item. My next move as a curious person was to disassemble the unit and determine the root of the problem. The problems discovered are as follows: • To start with I looked at the grooved/ridged surface of the clear plastic reservoir that holds the liquid. Upon careful observation I noticed that 2 out of 6 reservoirs (33.3% fail rate) had some defect in the form of chips or excess material that was preventing the ridge from making a good seal against the gasket. • This problem was fixed by sanding down the rough surface The second problem noticed was in regards to the rubber washers located on the center shaft base that normally functions to plug the flow coming from the bottle while allowing the captured fluid to dispense from the clear plastic reservoir. 3 out of 6 rubber washers (50% failure) had excess material that prevented a tight seal. This problem was corrected by sanding away the excess material. The third problem observed was with the dispensing shaft, in particular the O-rings that wrap around the shaft. These O-rings also had excess material that prevented a tight seal and thus resulting in leakage. Out of 12 O-rings total on six dispensers, 10 had excess material that prevented a tight seal (83.3% failure). This problem was also corrected by sanding down the excess material. In conclusion the Liquor Caddy is a very cool looking alcohol dispenser that adds a good deal of conversation around the man cave, however the quality of manufacturing for the rubber washers, O-rings and the clear plastic liquid reservoir lacks quality and therefore the average consumer experiences a great deal of disappointment with leakage. In my opinion your company may be able to increase sales with leak proof liquor caddies if a little time is invested in your quality control department to figure out why the rubber washers and O-rings have excess material (excess rubber skin). In addition I will recommend the use of Isopropanol or similar alcohol to be used when testing the product for leaks. According to Wikipedia (2014), the surface tension of isopropanol at 20°C is 21.70 dyn/cm which is by far less than water at 25°C with a value of 71.97 dyn/cm. Using isopropanol will represent the working environment much better at determining if the units will leak. Water as a test liquid with a high surface tension may not result in leakage during quality control review. I honestly believe the liquor caddy is a cool item worth its money, providing that the above mentioned is reviewed to prevent leakage. With my adjustments, I enjoy the use of my “leak proof” caddy!
