December 2013 upgrade has made using Kindles very difficult. The more ebooks you buy, the more difficult it is to use devides.
Do not buy until Amazon fixes the horrible upgrade that has made using the Kindle extremely difficult for people who have bought many ebooks from Amazon. See the thread at http://www.amazon.com/forum/kindle/ref=cm_cd_pg_pg1?_encoding=UTF8&cdForum=Fx1D7SY3BVSESG&cdPage=1&cdThread=Tx309AVPP3D9XM8 about the problems caused by the recent upgrade. I loved my several Kindles until the upgrade. The update results in every book that a person owns showing up on each device. It also results in collections made on other Kindles tied to the same account showing up on all Kindles under that account. Kids suddenly can see the adult books read by their parents! (I’m not a parent but can understand the shock expressed by moms and dads.) I own several Kindles of various models. Suddenly my paperwhite shows all of the collections from the other devices. It shows all books that I have read and deleted from the paperwhite device. For example, I used to have a collection for my bookclub. That category contained just the book that the club was currently reading. Now the category lists every book that I ever put into that collection and then deleted after reading it. I have nearly 3,800 books and on the second gen paperwhite had just a subset of them. Now I am forced to scroll through endless lists of books that are not on the paperwhite but are on other devices. The collections from other Kindles that show up on my paperwhite can not be deleted from that device without removing them from the other devices. There are other problems. There is a thread about the destructive upgrade with many complaints. http://www.amazon.com/forum/kindle/ref=cm_cd_pg_pg1?_encoding=UTF8&cdForum=Fx1D7SY3BVSESG&cdPage=1&cdThread=Tx309AVPP3D9XM8 I’ve spent a lot of money with Amazon but now wish I had stuck with printed books. The more books a person bought from Amazon, the more difficult it is to use a Kindle paperwhite.
