I read reviews about a strong chlorine small, but thought I might be one of the lucky ones who got a good, non-smelling heating pad. Wrong. I opened it and immediately was overcome by the strong smell of chlorine. I thought washing it with Purex crystals and detergent would get rid of the smell, but that didn't do a thing. My husband and I could really use the heat on our backs, but the smell of this is too overpowering, so I will be returning. I don't know if I will try a replacement or not. It's very sad that a product meant to help improve health comes with issues that cause other problems. Quality control was missed here somewhere, as these should never have been distributed smelling like they do. UPDATE: Because my husband and I suffer with back pain, and could really use a product like this, I ordered a replacement for the one that I received that smelled overwhelmingly of chlorine bleach. The replacement came and it was every bit as HORRIBLE as the first one. The smell is terrible, it permeates the room it's in and you cannot get rid of it. I actually had to put it out into the garage until my husband could smell it as it was giving me a migraine. My husband smelled it and immediately got it out of the house and threw it into the garbage. This product should be recalled for an extremely strong chemical (chlorine) smell that we could not get rid of. It might help a backache, but would be harmful for anyone with asthma, or other breathing problems.
