Great light, but possible safety hazard
So, these light instal fantastic in our RV. They are bright, warm light, and nearly indistinguishable from the standard 'battery sucking' lights that are always installed initially in RVs. I've placed other LEDs lights in previously owned trailers, and when we acquired our 'new-to-us' 21' hybrid, I wanted to enjoy the same boondocking (dry camping) battery longevity as before. So I ordered these up, they arrived quickly, and installed them and they looked and worked fantastic.
I was performing some modifications and packing the trailer last night, and had the exterior light (with these new LED bulbs) on... And I mistakingly left it on when I packed up for the evening, and went in for the evening. When I came down the next morning to walk the kids to school (about 10 hours later), I noticed that I had left it on. When I went to the trailer to turn off the light, I caught a smell of hot/burning electronics. So I turned off the light, and then felt the lens covering it - very hot... But would be even if I had left it on with a standard bulb. I took off the lens to inspect the bulb and a cloud of smoke greeted me. The bulb was charred and extremely hot. After a minute or so of letting it cool, I removed the bulb and inspected the back (circuit) side of the bulb, and found it also to be charred and melted. I am including photos of these bulbs in 'customer photos' on this item. I feel if these were to be left on accidentally for a period of time, they would likely catch fire, or darn well close to it. This was an exterior bulb on a cool night, what might the interior bulbs do if left on? These things do get hot enough to burn you within about 90 seconds or so I began to notice. The other bulbs I've purchased in the past (albeit they were a 'cool white') did not get this hot. Warm, but not hot. This is a concern for me, I'll likely be returning them to find a safer alternative for my family with three young boys... Yeah, they like to leave lights on... :)
