This has been a total failure
I purchased this clock immediately after it was made available but it has never worked properly.
I received the clock and after two attempts managed to pair it successfully to my Echo device (show). I set a timer and an alarm to see what it would do (timers show up as ticks on the face of the clock, alarms simply flash all ticks when the alarm is going off. it showed me the notification that it had been delivered by pulsing its circular led above the 6.
then an hour later it had disconnected. setting timers and alarms didn't cause the clock to respond at all. additionally, the echo show had it listed as paired but disconnected. i read some reviews here which said it simply needed new batteries and I checked the capacity on the supplied batteries with a meter indicating they were a bit low. I replaced the batteries, and repaired it to a new device (echo spot) after removing it from the device list of my echo show. This has been the story of my clock's life. It has been an endless loop of resetting and losing connection after an hour. Eventually the LED light above the 6 turns red for a few days.
To pour salt in the wound, the time isn't even accurate; it seems as if it randomly stops keeping time and then starting up again.
I've been in contact numerous times with Echo device support who, while pleasant to converse with, have been unhelpful in resolving my issues. They just keep saying its been escalated to the developers, but without a connection to my Echo Spot no software update could possibly propagate through to the Wall Clock.
Even if it did work, it is pretty cheap. It is 100% plastic, and not thick plastic either. It is pretty close to packing plastic. The hands shouldn't be manipulated (Because it's assumed their position been calibrated) but aren't enclosed behind any glass or cover. This also means the clock face gathers dust pretty quickly. The dust seems to stick to the plastic clock face in weird patterns (will take a pic later).
I've been looking for an elegant 12" sweep second clock and haven't found anything to fit the bill. I was really hoping this Echo Clock would provide for a cooler alternative but am afraid I was sorely mistaken.
If I had made this clock:
1. I would have made alarms show up as a red tick corresponding to the alarms time
2. I would have made a very dim sweep second feature which lights up the second leds very dimly using the assistance of a PIR / occupancy sensor (so as to only do so when a person is detected and save battery) OR just added a sweep second hand
3. I would have added a buzzer to the clock face, switchable, which could help indicate the elapsing of a timer or alarm.
4. I would have added a plexiglass or thin glass cover for the face
5. I would have made it so that the face can be detached from the extremely cheap plastic frame and placed inside a different clock face of similar diameter.
6. I would have added luminescent hands.
7. I would have coded it off the back of an ESP8266 so it is WiFi instead of bluetooth
Anyway, I am hopeful that I hear back from Amazon with a resolution, otherwise I'll be returning this garbage to whatever millennial team was responsible for creating it.
