I ordered the Big Berkey filter, hearing from many sources that it is the gold standard water filter, and of course, has the most available replacement parts. After getting the filter unpackaged, I noticed one of the black filters was slightly chipped, but probably not enough to affect the functionality. I put the system together EXACTLY as the instructions said, screwing the fluoride filters on with EXACTLY 8 turns. The designers of these filters are simply bad engineers, as you can easily go past 8 turns, because the threads do not terminate, and also, because you are screwing them on to the bottom of the black filters, which are secured by a plastic nut which is too short for the Fluoride filters to make a secure connection at 8 or probably even 9 or 10 turns. These filters were faulty and their sand like medium was leaking into the bottom of the filter. What they probably don't want you to realize, is that this "sand" that is the filter medium of the Fluoride filter is actually Aluminum Oxide; Aluminum is an Excitotoxin. It primarily accumulates in the brain, clogging up the blood-brain barrier, and prevents the synaptic uptake of dopamine, and other important neurotransmitters. Aluminum is also quite difficult to flush out from the body. So instead of getting purified water out of this water filter, I had been poisoning myself, I noticed after a week or so of drinking the water that the back of my throat was sore, and that my kidneys hurt. I was stupid to think that this problem would be resolved by contacting the seller, and getting a replacement pair of Fluoride filters. After priming and installing these filters with only 7 TURNS, they were still making a buildup of toxic Aluminum Oxide at the bottom of the filter. I am demanding a full refund, and I am looking seriously into taking further action, as the leaking of Aluminum Oxide into the water I was drinking has made me feel ill. I recommend that NO ONE buy this product, as their quality control is terrible, and even if it weren't, you are still likely drinking some amount of Aluminum after the water has passed through the fluoride filter.
