Here we go again- more obfuscation from Intuit.
I haven't bought TT2014 yet- What version do I need to buy? Apparently, the Deluxe version includes Fed, State + e-file, but if you fill out certain forms, you lose e-file capability. I don't e-file, but have to ask "What's up with that?" The comparison chart of capabilities in different versions is no help. Historically, that chart said you needed the Premier version if you wanted "extra guidance" dealing with reporting transaction with stocks, bonds, etc. but this year says "coverage" of such transactions. What, in heavens name, does "coverage" mean?. Schedule D was always included in past Deluxe versions just partially hidden, with no hand holding to fill it out. Same comments for dealing with K-1 forms. The chart info has been an up-selling tactic. Past versions had similar upselling tactics with pop-up messages during the initial interview, but buying the Premier version was NEVER necessary for my returns. This year, I have no idea whether one can report capital gains with the Deluxe package or whether it includes the forms to deal with the K-1 I will receive and Amazon reviews, as usual, differ on this topic. The Intuit web site says Schedule D and several forms required to deal with a K-1 are not included in the Deluxe version, but 2 different individuals have told me otherwise in answer to my question on the Amazon site. Why can't Intuit simply and honestly list the forms and schedules included in each version, which forms include hand-holding and let me decide what I am competent to do without their assistance?
