Very slow, and bad Amazon service
I purchased one at $249 during Amazon's promotion. I got it two days ago and I'm not extremely disappointed with the product and Amazon's customer service. Pros: + Really nice screen, and it feels nice to touch. Nook HD+ has better viewing experience but Fire HD+ has much better touch experience. + Can watch Amazon prime. + Loud speakers + Content viewing is supposed to be good, but my unit is super slow. Cons: + Very slow, laggy - I will talk about this in detail later + Speakers are rear facing so you can't watch a video in bed properly. + Hard edges hurt my palms + Locked Android so you need to root it and run Google apps and have full Android experience. + Can only support one account. + Silk browser is slow and all you are viewing will be recorded by Amazon for Ads targeting. + Input is poor. I wish I could install other input methods in android. So let's talk about its slowness. It's slow in almost all aspects. Book reading, web browsing, Video watching, app running (e.g. flipboard). When I read a book, page flipping has 1-2 s delay. It even feels slower than my paperwhite! Web browsing is slow but I guess it's because Silk redirected your URL to Amazon server first. The most important thing is bad video experience because Amazon prime is the only reason I bought this tablet on top of my other Android tablets. I tried 3 TVs/movies, all of them froze at about 5 min into the play. It's only the graphic that is frozen. Sound is still going on. I'd imagine this is a defective device as how can a new Android device with 1.5G duo core CPU be this poor? Even Nexus 7 can do better. So I contacted Amazon for a replacement. The first one ask me to restart the device, and I told her that I had already done that. Then she asked me to factory reset, and wait for 48 hours to see!!! I'm an IT expert and I know this is bulls***. It was late at night so I didn't spend much time carrying on the chat. The second day, I called again. Amazon customer service is just pushing me around, from this department to another. They put me on hold for more than 20 minutes to transfer to amazon instant video team, can you believe that?! I got a defective device, you should just fix it for me. I have no time to help your team debugging devices. Anyway, I thought the above is my unit's problem so I'd have given it a higher rating, but according to Amazon's response, they don't think it's a defective device. Wow, if Fire HD+ is like this, it doesn't even worth $100 to me. What's use of it if you can't watch HD TV and read a book smoothly? My old Galaxy Tab 10.1 is even better than it. I'm so angry with the whole experience. Even if I bought it from Best Buy, I could get a replacement easily by telling them that I'm not satisfied. I thought Amazon is good at customer service but they just tried to push me to another team and wasted my time. So I can only return this thing.
