WARNING - Oxbow Secretly Changed the Ingredients on this Product
This is a Public Service Announcement:
Oxbow has changed the packaging and ingredients of this product without any notification to their customers. They are still marketing it on web sites including Amazon with the old Bunny Basics/T name and packaging even though the change took place at least 3 months ago. The item shown here is not the one you will receive. Attached are photos of the Ingredients and Guaranteed Analysis of the old bag and the new bag.
Rabbits have sensitive stomachs. If you are feeding your rabbits the old formula ("Oxbow Essentials Bunny Basics/T Adult Rabbit Food"), you must treat the new bag ("Oxbow Essentials Adult Rabbit Food") as a completely new food and gradually switch your rabbit over a period of weeks to prevent them from getting sick.
Some comparisons:
Old bag = 0.85% Max Calcium
New bag = 0.75% Max Calcium
Old bag = 19,000 Min IU/kg Vitamin A
New bag = 10,000 Min IU/kg Vitamin A
~ The new bag no longer shows how much salt and copper are in the food.
~ The old bag has Wheat Middlings as the third ingredient. It is now the fifth ingredient, making Soybean Meal and Cane Molasses higher on the list.
~ Limestone and Ferrous Sulfate have been completely taken out.
~ Dehydrated Yeast Culture has been replaced by Hydrolyzed Yeast
and so on...
I have written to Oxbow asking them if the product was the same because the ingredients and analysis did not match. This was their reply:
"Thank you for taking the time to contact Oxbow with your questions and concerns about the labeling on our new pellet bags. We have updated the packaging to more represent the food, but the formula has not changed, it is still the same Adult Rabbit food(BBT) you have been feeding. We always suggest transitioning from bag to bag as the timothy hay and other macro ingredients in the food are products of Mother Nature and will occasionally lead to some slight variances in color and flavor. I hope this helps to answer your questions and concerns, please let me know if I can help you with anything else."
So they are denying that the product has changed but still recommend that you transition from bag to bag because of "Mother Nature".
Oxbow: Why are you treating your customers like this? If a product has changed its ingredients, especially for an animal so sensitive to food changes like bunnies, then why not tell your customers? Why hide it with the facade that only the packaging has changed?
