Terrible Engineering Design
I am very disappointed Leviton would release this design to the consumer market. It uses an electronic switch (FET or some other electronic device) to feed power to the load with a design that is extremely inferior, cheap design. When the switch is in the "off" position, my fan (the load) is still receiving power, very little but it is getting some lower amounts of power. I can tell by listening to the fan humming constantly with the switch in the "off" position. The fan is even warm to the touch when the switch is in the "off" position.
To put this in laymens terms, think about of your garden water facet. The facet is this Leviton switch in this case. If your facet is in the "off" position you expect NO water to flow from it, not a drop - zero. If it leaks then you have water slowly dripping out of the facet and after hours, you have a gallon or more lose and you are paying for that lose water.
It's the same with your electricity. This switch bleeds power in the "off" position and two things are happening; you are paying for a steady stream of electricity for a switch that is suppose to be "off" and low power feed to a fan motor will eventually burn out the motor coil, damaging your fan. So now you have paid for unnecessary electricity and you have a damaged fan all because a product manager at Leviton failed to set the specifications correctly to the contract manufacturing in China. Plus, they are selling them on-line to minimize customer complaints from the hardware stores where their operational loses would be even more. Think about it - as a consumer you are more likely to return a product you do not like than to return it from ordering online.
Never mind the humidity sensor issue. Those sensors commonly do work for the first few months to about a year. But they rarely last more than 2 years. You have to put in some serious $$$ into a high quality humidity sensor to get the reliability a home owner expects. I personally just wanted the auto timer this switch offers and the aesthetic design is relatively nice. But functionally this is an Epic Fail => RETURN for a REFUND!
