Gorgeous TV, dead pixels or dust particles
This is a gorgeous TV. There's almost no visible DSE. I swear the picture is better than my Q90R. But my unit had a dead pixel about an inch down from the center of the screen. I replaced it and had about a week of bliss until the replacement suddenly sprouted a bad pixel as well. At least this one is off center.
I discovered today that the dead pixel is actually just a speck of dust or some other contaminant that's partially blocking 4 pixels in my panel. I got it to move by tapping the screen, but it just dropped down about 12" and blocked another 4 pixels closer to the center of my panel (or another speck appeared). I haven't been able to dislodge it again, unfortunately. I learned this by putting my cell phone on 10x zoom and inspecting the individual pixels; the defect disappears off angle, meaning the pixels themselves aren't stuck or dead.
I've gone through six 49Q80Ts and two 55Q90Ts now (yes I'm stubborn), all of which had at least one dead pixel (well, dust particle), some more than a dozen. That's unacceptable on TVs that costs $1,000+. I think there's a manufacturing problem, like a clean room that's not clean, or I've just been very unlucky.
06/4/20 - I tried a third Q90T direct from Samsung. 3 dust particles on this one, blocking about 12 pixels. After 9 sets I don't think it's just bad luck--there's something wrong with Samsung's manufacturing process. I wonder if other people are getting defective sets as well.
