I thought this would be a sweet, coming of age summer show, but I was mistaken. There is nothing wholesome or virtuous about “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” which is unfortunate because the concept was promising. Some of the main characters (including adults) are shown smoking weed and getting drunk. There is a sexually loose/promiscuous mentality propagated by the young adults. One of Belly’s male friends (her main love interest), Conrad, is a narcissistic, weed-smoking jerk. Belly makes foolish decisions and doesn’t appear to learn much from her errors. The kids can be quite mean to each other. Complete garbage.
