Not for my daughter
These stories are uninspired and derivative.
Amelia is jealous of another girl's bike and is embarrassed of her own. So her parents agree to pay for half while she works for the balance.
The lesson here is that, if you want to keep up with the Joneses, work for it? No thanks!
Amelia is caught up in another princess and fairies story. Hasn't Disney already burned that into every pink-donning adolescent girl? Did I need another story whose derivation is rooted in patriarchal feudalism?
Annie from The Magic Treehouse is a superior female archetype. She's adventurous, risk taking, compassionate, and courageous.
