My husband bought me this machine in December of 2010 for Xmas, my first new machine in over 20 years - After a few months of sewing (and I did love the machine), my bobbin thread tangled up inside the machine. After I got the bobbin thread and bobbin out and tried to continue sewing, I noticed the machine did not sew at all, it would not pick up the bobbin thread. Here, it was out of time. I emailed Singer and they said it was out of time because I turned the hand wheel backwards, they don't have any local places near me to get it fixed, nor do they help with shipping to have it fixed...I am not paying to have a 15 lb. machine shipped.. My complaint with them is it's a heavy duty machine, and should be able to handle a little "nesting" of bobbin thread, or the fact that someone MAY turn the hand wheel backwards without it causing it to be out of time. By them saying that it was out of time FROM me turning the hand wheel backward (and I never told them I did) - they MUST KNOW that this is a problem, and if it is, why not fix it before they sell anymore. I think mine is just made poorly. Long story short, I was able to fix the machine myself (and it was clearly out of time), but I have no idea what I did to fix it (besides take it a part and wiggle some stuff). I got the machine running for a quilting project and again, I had some bobbin thread troubles (where it jammed up) and now the machine is BACK out of time. I am SO disappointed in this machine. I have had a Celebrity Sewing machine for over 18 years and NEVER had the problems I have with this Singer. I am now using my old Brother sewing machine, and it has never gone out of "timing". I will attempt to fix this Singer again, myself, but if not, it will cost me $25.00 just to have it looked at. I don't think a machine under 1 year old should have so many problems. Good luck if you buy this machine, I wish I had one of the good ones that work well. I am NOT happy with this, and feel that it was a waste of good money. So, buyer beware...but I would stay away from this machine.
