I wanted so badly to love these, and before they even arrived I did. I've been making a huge effort to reduce my use of plastic and generally be more eco-friendly. I was SO EXCITED when I saw these! But once they arrived, there was something immediately frustrating about them, so I waited to write my review until I'd used one of these at least twice. So here I am. First, trying to open these things is awful. I thought, okay, fine, first time opening these buggers is tough, but second time might be better, right? Well, no. It's just as difficult as the first time. You can listen to my sigh of exasperation in the video I've posted. The first minute or so of the video is me halfway through opening the gallon sized bag, having added hot water (for some reason I thought this would make it easier). Struggling to open this bag is what made me decide it was time to write this review, and the video would help other buyers decide whether they mind it or not. This is the second time I've used the gallon sized bag. The second half is me opening one of the previously unopened sandwich-sized bags, which I kept dry because the water did nothing. My other problem with these is that when I think I have it open all the way--that little bottom slit on the outside included, so it can truly fully open up--I realize after filling it up that I have consistently missed pretty significant pockets. You can see one such a pocket in my picture. That, or it closes up again before I get food in there. It's happened to me with the gallon bags each time, but once with the sandwich bags. I thought I had it open all the way and I went to slip my sandwich inside, but the sandwich only went halfway because it had closed up again. So. While I'd love to never use plastic zip-top bags ever again, I don't think these are my solution. Or at least, not this batch of them. I'm open to trying others if they're easy to open. Please comment on my review if you use an easier replacement for zip-top bags!!
