DO NOT BELIEVE CLAIMED "INSURANCE"!!
Tripp-llte prominently features "$50,000 Ultimate Lifetime Insurance - covers connected equipment against direct surge damage, including lightning!" with this item. I had a lightning event involving both telephone and power line surges, with significant damage to pieces equipment connected ONLY to these ISOTEL protectors. I also had other damaged equipment on isotel protectors but also connected to ethernet, etc. To claim the "insurance" I was asked to return the units, with diagrams of all connected equipment. Tripplite DENIED all claims, SOLELY on the basis that they said they found no evidence of a surge INSIDE the protectors. Tripplite's representative also claimed there are "other pathways" and "ground strikes" which cause damage which is not covered. BUT the terms of the "insurance" are online at: [...] and they state that equipment properly connected to the isolator IS covered, say nothing about requiring internal evidence of isolator damage, and do not assert pseudoscienctific exemptions to coverage. 1) I clearly did have significant damage to pieces equipment connected ONLY to these ISOTEL protectors. 2) Assertions of "other pathways" and "ground strikes" which cause damage which is not covered are pseudoscience when there are no other connections, and are contrary to the published terms. 3) No examination of a lightning protector can prove that no surge has passed through it; peaks and damage do not necessarily occur at the protector; this requirement is ALSO contrary to the published terms. No protector can prevent all damage - that's the reason for the insurance, and the reason it is advertised -- but you do have to have some trust in the insurer. My experience with Tripplite was extraordinarily distasteful. I will no longer trust, purchase or recommend their products.
