Great panel, controller...not so much.
Great starter kit. The kit was an easy install on my RV. I'm charging 4 six volt golf cart batteries in series and parallel and this panel does the job. However, I'd recommend an upgrade to the charge controller. The included controller is a basic performer but an MPPT controller will optimize the panel's efficiency. 8/19/14 Update, the charge controller has already gone bad. Even in full noon sun the controller is measuring battery voltage at the terminals while the panel is outputing 20.3V at 5.25A. Won't keep my batteries charged now. Glad I had an MPPT controller on the way. Back in the 80's I spent a summer studying in Wang Chung province and the local vernacular for inferior products like this controller was "a POS". 8/24/2014 Update, received my MPPT controller today and I'm back in business. The MPPT controller recharged the batteries in a few hours. The new controller is accurately tracking solar output voltage and consistently maintaining 17V to the controller in bright sunlight. This amounts to about a 5V increase over the Renogy PWM controller. Essentially, the Renogy PWM controller, even when working, is acting as a throttle to the panel's capability. Additionally, the kit comes with aluminum 20ft 12 AWG cables. If you calculate voltage drop (open circuit) you'll find a 2.58% loss from the panel to the controller. I recommend shortening the cable to the minimum you need. In my case I cut the cables back to 10ft resulting in the recovery of 1.29% of the lost voltage. Even better would be to replace the aluminum cable with 10 AWG copper. I still think the panel is a good buy, however, the cabling is just OK, and the PWM controller is total junk.
