NOTE: change in ingredients! (ordered July 2019)
I’m so sad to write this review.
As someone who has major dietary restrictions (gluten-free, low/no sugar and avoids artificial ingredients), these pecan cookies were truly the perfect cookie. They’re deliciously nutty, just a hint sweet, and the ingredient list is (was) fabulous. I ordered these cookies religiously, a 3-pack at least once every month. It’s the only cookie I can truly enjoy.
Sadly, I just opened my latest order and noticed the flavor and texture were different—different enough that I felt certain the recipe had changed. Sure enough, it has. The cookies no longer contain tigernuts, has substituted palm shortening for coconut oil, and has removed coconut from their nut flour blend. (See photo for reference; box to the left is the new box.). Subtle changes, but wow, do it make a difference in taste. The texture is completely different—more flour-y than nutty, which is so disappointing.
I hope this is a temporary thing, because the original recipe was absolutely delicious. Please, Simple Mills, don’t go down this road of cutting corners to make more profit. People like me will pay more for a quality product; please go back to the original quality recipe!
(Side note: I’ve also noticed changes in Simple Mills’ almond crackers (texture and size), which is (was) another staple in my pantry. Simple Mills—you’re breaking my heart!)
