CLAIM DENIED AFTER LIGHTNING STRIKE - USELESS AS A SURGE PROTECTOR
I don't usually leave reviews like this but I'd like every current and potential buyer to know my experience.
First of all, I love the product itself and the design of it. However, lightning recently struck a light pole about 20 ft from my home and caused a surge which tripped a few breakers at my home. I had my TV, Home Theater receiver, Raspberry PI 2, MagicJack, and Wireless Router connected to the surge protector. The TV was the only powered off device at the time and was unaffected by the lightning strike. However, all of the other devices were powered on and did not work after the lightning strike. After the storm passed, I turned all the breakers back on only to realize that all of the above devices except the TV did not power on. Having only recently bought the surge protector (both lights were working on the surge protector) and having all documentation, I went through the claim process. I was absolutely disappointed in Belkin whey they returned my surge protector saying that they found no signs of a surge and they would not compensate me for my losses (which was under $1000 btw). They sent back pictures of their "testing" procedures which are basic electronics testing (voltage output from at least 1 outlet, reported no signs of arcing, said that the lights were working on the surge protector and showed a picture of it) then denied the claim. So now I have damaged devices that were supposed to be protected by a nice looking but apparently non-functional product and a declined claim from Belkin. Personally I will now start avoiding Belkin products after this ridiculous experience but I just wanted to let other potential buyers and current owners of especially this product that their either their claim testing process is not comprehensive OR the product is not designed well enough to "show signs" of a surge. A surge protector that doesn't protect against surges... Damaged electronics, and even the light pole outside is pending repair...
