I have a 5 year old model that is very, very sharp, even after use, abuse and never, ever sharpening it. While this one is nice and light weight, and is easy to swing, it doesn't cut well at all. I have an old log that I use to chop kindling. I bury by hatchets in the log when I'm done. The 5yo Fiskars buries itself well. My regular 20 year old hatchet that I've sharpened once buries itself. This model just bounces right off the log. I take responsibility for being lazy in regard to maintenance, and when I use and abuse my tools, and don't expect much. However, when I buy a hatchet that is supposed to be the sharpest thing since my grandma's tongue, I expect much more than this hatchet delivers. Maybe I got a lemon. It happens. But I am returning this hatchet. I'll just sharpen my old ones and use them.
