BEWARE! These have changed recently! These pads soak up MUCH less than the old ones. I've been a long time buyer of these pads, and they *have been* the best, but sadly I cannot continue to recommend them. In the past there was a top layer which kept dry, and allowed the pad to soak beneath. I just received my newest order, and this has been removed, and now the pads have just an absorbent core, exposed. Now even the core is different, taking on a texture of a thick paper towel, instead of the cotton-y soft core in the past. Before messes would stay small, and not spread out, now messes spread out to become **very** large. This makes them no better than any number of other imitators. Sad to say, those imitators are cheaper. We always use Four Paws brand because they lasted twice as long as others, and so the premium in price was worth it to us. Now I'm sure we'll finish this box and be back on the hunt for a better pad. To be clear: the pads no longer stand out among all the other options out there. So no need to pay the premium. One or two messes from a small shih tzu and they're full!
