The battery in this alarm that was supposed to last 10 years only lasted two years. I sent the unit back to Kidde a month ago at my own expense and asked for a replacement under warranty. They did receive the package, but I got no response, which does not surprise me - they have been very slow about replacing their recalled defective fire extinguishers, and this is more of the same poor service. I have already purchased a First Alert unit to replace this. I would recommend that you choose another unit from a company that stands behind their products and if you have one of these that fails prematurely, don't throw good money after bad by sending it back to Kidde. UPDATE: Kidde finally did replace my unit, seven months after I sent it back. Sorry, that is way too long to make a customer wait for warranty service, even if it is for something non-essential. Given that this is safety equipment, their poor response time is simply inexcusable.
