I have an expensive steamer I bought in 2010, which is fantastic but heavy. However, I have stairs now and am older and wanted a handheld that would clean counters, bathrooms, window sills, etc. Not floors, grout, carpets, and not for long durations. So I ordered the Bissell. It did ship fast, was beautifully packaged, it had actual directions. Although plastic, the parts accesdories all fit and appeared to be well made. Unfortunately, the water did not get hot enough, hence, no steam—just hot water. Since it's an inexpensive unit I did not expect a lot of pressure but my kitchen sink produces much hotter water than this unit, and you can see steam coming off the water as it comes out of the spigot. From my larger, more expensive unit that I use for floors, grout, carpet, baseboards, etc., I know what real steam does to dirt and bacteria and this unit did not come close. I had bought and returned a similarly priced handheld and it had the exact same problem. I was hoping it was the unit, but now I realize my hopes exceeded my expectations. Quite simply, you get what you pay for. Maybe with newer technology the Bissell will improve but as of now, I would not recommend it for steam cleaning.
