I bought this drive to store old family pictures and items from my PC to free up storage space. It worked fine for two weeks as I put nearly 2tb on the drive. It was working fine one day and the same day stopped working suddenly. It was not dropped or jostled in any way. It just would not show up in E on the computer as it had previously. I ran all the programs to check for errors from WD, I talked to support, I bought a new cable. I went through every troubleshooting step and no luck. It shows up in devices and says that it is working properly, but will not allow me to access any files. It makes a low, whirring noise and stops completely after a few minutes. The SMART test showed it failed and says it has a fatal hardware error. I spent hours trying to fix this and get my files back to no avail. It appears this is a very common problem with these larger drives but Western Digital is not addressing it or remedying it. I have had previous WD drives with no issues, but many people seem to be having these problems now and almost right out of the box. I could send the drive back to Amazon, but now it has all my personal info and pictures~ some of which I can't get back because I deleted them off my computer to save space. That's why I wanted the drive in the first place! I am deeply disappointed and will never buy another WD product. It is now junk!!
