This fountain is ultra-quiet and super easy to clean. You can easily take it apart, as the fountain itself is made of two pieces of plastic. There are no hard to reach spots for hand wiping, and it fits easily in the top rack of the dishwasher. The replacement filters are pretty cheap- I've found them online for about 5 USD per 2 pack. Still not sure how often to change them, but I figure 1-2x a month, with twice a week water changes. The plug is really nicely designed. It's got plenty of cord length, but the coolest part is that it's two pieces: instead of reaching behind the microwave to unplug it whenever I need to turn off the filter for cleaning, I can unplug the filter end of the cord from the power pack end. Very convenient. Single drawback, and admittedly this is problematic (thus the 3 stars): I had the pump running for 3-4 weeks before it died. The pumps are about 15-20 USD to replace, but I'm obviously going through the seller and then the manufacturer because that's just too fast. If it weren't for the pump, this would be an easy 5 stars. Will update after resolution. Update 1/11/11: Apparently, per the seller and some online research, these pumps are not sold individually. Unfortunately this means that if/when the pump dies in the future, the whole unit is junk. There are some replacement pumps out there, but they seem to get lower review scores, and often don't include the flow adjustment knob. I REALLY REALLY want to like this fountain, as it is perfect when it is working. However, the fact that it broke so fast and is taking a long time to replace knocks it down to 2 stars. Update 1/21/11: Don't bother with this fountain at any price. Unfortunately, it seems the manufacturer has discontinued it. When my pump died, neither I nor the seller could get a replacement, even though it was under warranty. I ended up having to get a refund. It's too bad- it's a really nice fountain otherwise.
