Triple the Price for Essentially the Same Functionality
Quicken has been adding very limited features over the last few years, but I kept buying a new version every three years after the previous license expired. I was always annoyed that a product that I purchased previously would now "expire", when no mention was made of it doing so previously. But I figured it was always worth it, as long as I was able to continue to download transaction. Well, now Quicken has changed their subscription model once again. Instead of your license being good for three years, it is now good for a single year. So overnight, Quicken has essentially tripled the price for their software, while giving (me) no new features, or cleaning up previous bugs. (I mean, how many times do I need to Connect and Reconnect accounts to get them to download transactions anyways?) It may be slightly unfair to leave a 1-star review for a product that I haven't even used, so please consider this more of a "won't buy" review. UPDATE: After using Quicken for three months after the previous version "expired", I can no longer recommend it as a product. I get that there is a cost to Quicken to maintain the ability to download from different website in their proprietary format, so if they need to charge a fee for that, I get it. But many websites will offer the ability to download transactions in some sort of common format, usually comma separated (CSV). However, when you license expires, Quicken will now disable this feature, in an attempt to get you to renew. This is unacceptable, because Quicken is now disabling features that previously worked, for which they face no cost.
