Disappointment
I really wanted to like this book but I just couldn't, I'm sorry. I’ve been interested in this story since the events of Twisted Pride. It looked promising back then. Now after finally reading it, I have to say it’s left a bad taste in my mouth. It’s a first Cora Reilly book (apart from TH) that I was really struggling to finish (I was close to DNF it around 50% and the latter part I just skipped pages). The plot was too predictable and I had a feeling that also repetitive (Saying that it’s easy to foresee where e.g Samuel’s and Emma’s story is heading). There were some interesting moments and characters (Anna, Santino and mostly Leonas) but most of the time it was just boring and cringy (a lot, too much for my taste). What bothers me about this book the most is: reading about a character-Sofia who is for 50-60% of the book underage (12-17 years old)… It’s just gross to read the supposed mature content of the book later (after that 60%). The other thing I really couldn’t overlook was her naivety, lack of self-confidence and simple stupidity. The things she did… let’s say she won the spot for the most cringe-worthy character in this series (that scene at Danilo’s birthday party.. whoa.. I want to forget it..and preferably unseen it. At that point the book turned from being gross to comedy). Her constant comparing herself with Serafina just started driving me mad…Really? It borders on OBSESSION (perfumes, hairstyle… seriously I waited for her to do some secret plastic surgery -_-). At some point I had a feeling that was a main plot of the book and sorry I’m not buying it. When it comes to Danilo, I had a nagging feeling that his character development was no existent (there was a beginning and the end, but the middle was missing). In the blurb it was written that he has a thirst for revenge and yes it was stated multiple times throughout a book but… where was that revenge?! He did nothing but f***** blondes. Well man, you are very creative…And here I was waiting for some thrilling mafia like action… But I should have known that sleeping around is the highest action you could get from these books. And still... I had a hope. And lastly Miones, you really get on my nerves. I liked you… before reading this book but well, now I just can’t stand you (that includes you Samuel). The level of hypocrisy is high. Maybe they will redeem themselves but I doubt. To sum up, it was incredibly hard to connect with main characters (unfortunately I didn’t succeed at all). When the plot reached the moment where they started working on their marriage, I was so disinterested in their love affairs, that I just skipped reading it. The epilogue was irksome. The only thing that had me interested was the famous chapter 23, which I loved wholeheartedly, finally we got some action! And Leonas and Santino (of course) I have a high hopes for you, don't disappoint me. Will I read other books by this author? yes, I'll.
