Generic, just OK, and kinda boring
I can't really get into many of these characters and I can't say I empathize with any of them nor care what their fate will be. The main elf lady is just annoying and that actor's acting made us pause the video and laugh a couple of times. I really like low-budget high-fantasy shows/videos with bad acting but this lady is pushing the envelope. The elf guy squirting the evil cow-juice directly into his hand was extremely strange, but I like it's comedic timing. The star-crossed-lovers plot they have going on could work if it's handled well but it doesn't look like it's going to be. It feels like cliche-riddled filler. not to mention it's extremely creepy to me though to think about that this elf guy has been stationed at and visiting this village for the last half-dozen decades and the woman he's secretly in love with is in her late 20s. Hopefully he met her when she was already an adult instead of watching her grow up in the village from a toddler; maybe I missed that part. The halfling's are overly silly, but maybe that's needed to balance out the I'm-so-super-serious-and-have-only-one-emotion of some other 1-dimensional characters. I just wish the hobbits didn't have such thick garish feigned Irish accents. It's almost too distracting to watch. So far all the dwarves are my favorite characters. Need more dwarf. My only issue with them is the design of making females are easily distinguishable from the males. The only character I absolutely hate is Elrond. In this show I feel like he's portrayed as a slick-talking fake snake-in-the-grass politicians and I don't trust a single word he says. If I didn't know anything about the lore of Arda then I'd assume he had secretly worked with/for Melkor and was now biding his time until Sauron was ready. This character is not Elrond, but hopefully his character-arc will turn him into Elrond. I have my doubts though. Plot-wise: It's very herky-jerky and doesn't flow well at all. The scenes are usually pretty ham-fistedly written with no respect for subtext. The plot drags characters along on rails regardless of motivation. I'll continue to watch I think. There are some threads I'd like to see resolved, and it's interesting to see what parts of the established lore the show will either adhere to or completely disrespect. It's much better than Hobbit and Lord of the Rings from the 70s at least. Edit: Ive watched 3 episodes and goodness Galadrial is the most annoying character I've ever seen in my life. My review _was_ 3 stars... I'm taking off a star because so many of the characters are just plain stupid/annoying. Edit: I've watch 4 episodes and Galadrial is getting worse and worse. I'm glad there's no halflings in this episode so that's a plus at least. Its soooo boring I fell asleep. To see if I missed anything I watched a 2 hour long detailed review of the episode that was immensely more entertaining. I'm glad I fell asleep; I didn't miss anything of value. This episode has me removing another star. Episode 5 is out now; I don't think I'm going to watch it.
