Terrible Product, Terrible Warranty, Terrible Customer Service
I live in North Texas and humidity can be a challenge especially since my dog has dust mite allergy and I had to lower humidity levels to help him. I purchased four units of this model in the last 9 months and two of them broke down 2-3 months ago so they lasted almost six months while they pretty much didn't run at all for almost 4 months from November to February. This should speak for the quality of this product. Another note about this product: with no exception the units I received (the original four and the other two replacements that I'll explain below) all received in bad packaging and had damages on the plastic body. Now what happened when I contacted GE for warranty? After multiple transfers, they told me that I have to get a Good Will certificate which is a terrible way to handle warranty for items at this price point when they're broken in less than a year, not one of them but two. So they asked me to wait for them to send me *paper printed* certificates and then order replacements online, and then send back the *paper printed* receipt along with the certificates so they issue me checks for refund of what I have purchased but all up to a certain price that is pre-set by them in their certificates (this unit lowered price so although I had paid more for original items, their refund would only cover the lower price I'm purchasing which is OK as long as they replace the same unit with an identical one). So this whole process took almost two weeks and of course I couldn't use my broken units until this archaic process completed. In 2021 they don't accept any electronic communication either. So I received the certificates, immediately ordered two replacements from Amazon, and had to go to postal office and waste my time and money to send out the receipt and certificates. Almost 5 weeks later, I received two checks in my mailbox and boom, the refund is only for the price of the units and does not include the sales tax of almost 50 dollars on these two units. Am I supposed to pay the sales tax for broken units that they had sent me? I had a lot of respect for GE because during years I've owned quite a few of their appliances (fridge, oven, microwave, dishwasher, cooktop, washer, and dryer) and they all have worked great so far, and I wanted to get a reliable unit for dehumidifier because I knew it will be running at my house for some good time in late spring and summer in Texas. What I received was pure junk and a waste of money while I could get much better quality products from competitors for a cheaper price. Cherry on top, the cost of shipping of the certificate and receipt as well as the sales tax all fell on me so not only I paid a higher premium for low quality products last year before they lowered in price, but also I paid extra sales tax and shipping to receive warranty on these products. Now I don't even talk about all the hours of time I had to waste chasing this. I have one simple advise for anyone considering this product: save yourself some money and trouble and please don't.
