Has Le Creuset fallen so far....????
My wife & I were born in Europe. There, Le Creuset was considered an elite brand and, confirming that that reputation was deserved, we have several items (saucepans, pots, etc.) that we have owned for more than 30 years, and that are still as good as new. Indeed, they are so well-made and durable that we sometimes discuss who will inherit them when we die!
Not so with this kettle. It is a piece of crap. Don't buy it. It looks good, but the good ends there. The whistle doesn't have a spring to close it, so it's too easy to leave it open - in which case, the whistle won't sound when the water is boiling. OK, that might be attributable to user error. But rusting isn't. Many others have commented on the rust (why did we buy it? Because my beloved wife loves Le Creuset and didn't believe the reviews - I wouldn't have purchased this in the first place). Sure enough, after about a year the rim of the lid rusted heavily (despite rarely having been removed / re-inserted - so we didn't damage it). And when my wife looked inside, she saw lots of rust.
I hope that the very poor quality of this item isn't representative of the Le Creuset brand - I'd hate to think that their standards have fallen so far. But regardless - DO NOT BUY THIS KETTLE (unless you want to replace it regularly, or you love rust)
