Pocket Power
Looking around Amazon, I'm really surprised that these guys don't have any competition. This thing is the perfect form factor, two ports, and packs a 2.4A punch. Puts Apple's charger to shame, and with folding prongs (perfect 'snap' every time) fits right in your pocket, even in dress pants. Verdict: 5 Stars, and don't leave home without it! Edit 8/2015: There are several one star reviews here, describing a problem where the unit won't charge, or the white power LED flickers on and off. I have started to notice this problem as well. After a bit of troubleshooting, I've discovered that a lot depends on the outlet the unit is plugged in to. Some outlets consistently have the problem, some outlets never do, and some are in between. It seems that in general, newer, sturdier outlets are better. Older, looser outlets, (which don't grip the plug firmly) are much worse, even if they power other appliances just fine. The problem has something to do with the electrical contacts, which you can hear, and sometimes see, sparking. The prongs on this charger are a little longer than other plugs, and perhaps a bit thinner, as well. In some outlets, this causes the unit not to sit flush against the wall, and that, together with the thinner prongs, and probably also older, looser contacts inside the outlet, seems to be causing the poor connection. Usually, shoving the thing against the outlet will give you a connection, but the circuit breaks as soon as the pressure is removed. Despite all the lightning, the charger still works fine, when you can get power. This is really something that the engineering team should correct in this otherwise great device. 1/16 Unfortunately, this problem has been getting worse with time. It seems that something is wrong with the internal connection as well, but with the plastic casing not having any removable screws, it's impossible to troubleshoot without breaking the charger. I see that there are plenty of happy, 5 star reviews here still, so maybe this was just a bad batch, but it's no longer reliable enough to be practically useful. If this problem has been fixed, I'd love to try out a newer better version.
