You get what you pay for...plastic
I have been feeding raw to my animals for the past 10 years and while I usually feed prey model raw. I decided to try something new and start grinding some of their meals. I searched heavily for a grinder that was a good price range, sturdy, and would last a while. Well this product struck out on all three.....I'm afraid. For starters it was broken right out of the box. The good thing was that the item arrived in prompt time. So the next day I prepared to grind a pork butt for sausage. After I had gotten the supplies ready I cleaned and set up the grinder for first time use. However after plugging the device in and pressing the grind button. Nothing happened. Puzzled I checked my outlet, again no other issue all over devices worked. I re-read the instructions again to be sure there wasn't a switch on the grinder I didn't flip. Again nothing. I searched online hoping to find a solution to the problem I was having. Nothing. So I contacted customer service by calling them the first time. No answer. Second time same thing. So then I sent an e-mail through Amazon. I was finally able to get in touch with them, afterwards they told me to do the same troubleshooting as described in the instructions that came with the device. I told them I had done so and the device still won't turn on. So they told me that its possible something was "knocked loose" and that I would need to open the device and connect some wires.........Ok, doesn't that type of stuff void warranties????? Luckily I do have a background in IT troubleshooting so I had a semi idea as to the what I was doing. However for most people this might have been to much for them. Anyway I followed the directions and compared the diagram in the picture. Well it worked......but according to the picture there was a piece missing, didn't think it would make much of a difference. I was wrong.. After getting the machine to turn on, I took the pork out and started to grind the meat. Well halfway though the grinding it stopped. Pretty much at this point I was done. I wasted my meat, I did some unnecessary troubleshooting to get this thing to work. So I went through Amazon to give me a refund. Apparently that didn't sit well with gentleman at customer service who seemed a bit offended I was returning his device. I understand some defective devices will get through, but honestly this should have been a return no questions asked sort of thing. Anyway while cleaning the device of the meat excess, I noticed some discoloration on it. It was coming from the grinding plates! I don't know what the plates are made of but its not something I want to use with my meats. Even cleaning them with soap and water the discoloration continued. So please be aware of this. Also being inside the device yes the GEARS ARE PLASTIC. Thankfully to Amazon I was able get my refund, but not without some complaints from the vendor. Since a Styrofoam top was missing from the packaging, pieces were "randomly" placed together, and the discoloration of some of the plates. Which I mentioned above. I was given the "never sell to again" which is fine by me. I wish I could give the grinder a positive review but my experience with it as well as the "customer service" says otherwise. I will gladly take my business elsewhere.
