Respiratory Distress!!!! Hazardous Materials Used in Product!
I bought one of these rugs from Rug Lots towards the end of June this year. Its delivery was prompt, as it was being fulfilled by Amazon and I have been a Prime member for some time now. I loved it so much that I order two more of the exact same pattern for different areas of my home. The main largest rug was an 8x10 and has been in our main room since purchase. I have loved it's colors in the room. Myself and my 5 year old boy came down with what we thought was a light cold about two weeks ago. My son and I spend a good amount of time in our main room, as I work from home and my son has been out from school during the summer. After a few days of intense coughing through the first week of our "cold" I tried to figure out why neither my sons mother, nor anyone else who had spent time around us was catching our coughing "bug". Normally, we would go out and take walks or to the park. We like to get out of the house during the day. But instead, we stayed home to rest and eat soup and take care of ourselves so we would get better. I had no idea that my keeping us home to get better was what was making us worse. We would stay in our main room, on the couches so my son could watch his shows and I could spend time with him. There was nothing you can do for this cough. It finally took me logically thinking ...what was new? Why is no one else sick? Why are we worse at home? His mother says he gets better at her house... I've never been one of those "hypies" with super concerns about cloth or natural fibers. But I am now apparently. "100% air twisted polypropylene power loomed in Turkey lends an exceptional soft feel. 100% jute backing is safe for wood floors." I'm usually much better about this... Researching my purchases that is. I did before buying a vacuum and even a soda stream machine. I was dumb to not question the materials in those rugs. Polypropylene is a thermoplastic polymer that causes both consumers and flock laborers significant respiratory problems when used in fiberous form...such as in carpeting. Especially in conjunction with the jute and vylne backing which create harmful VOC gasses. My aim is not to press some terror agenda on future consumers. My experience with this carpeting ended with my son being taken to urgent care and requiring oxygen respiration to maintain steady breathing. Myself...I've been coughing the fibers out the last few days and hoping the symptoms continue to subside. I cannot return this product for a refund because I threw the rugs into the dumpster the instant I surmised the cause of our turmoil... Far away from our home. I have vacuumed several times a day for the last few days with my HEPA Dyson and been running air purifiers continuously. The breathability has increased exponentially. A small part of me...that doubt as I tossed $360.00 in rugs into the dumpster...a simple thought of, "what if it was something else?" That thought has now completely subsided. The rugs are gone. We can breath better and the air in our home is begining to return to normal. My son has been able to return home. And I have been able to spend time in my main room without coughing until my eyes were clouded with burning tears. Amazon heard my plight regarding this Horrible product, and despite my having thrown all of the rugs into the dumpster, they graciously refunded the money I spent on the one which was fulfilled by them. Thank you Amazon. This is why I remain a long time and loyal customer. I have rambled on long enough. Be careful...read up on your rug before you fill your home with a constant upheaval of toxic fibers. Thank you for reading
