★☆☆☆☆
Lee child has “jumped the shark.”
Outrageously far fetched and unrealistic. From previous books we know how logical, rational and deeply analytical hero Jack Reacher is. However, in this it appears that just about every character Reacher runs into is a kindred spirit, detail oriented yet broadly philosophical. Many of the bad guys, even a couple of low level thugs are able to contemplate their legitimate and phony choices. If you like high body counts, you might enjoy this, particularly since Reacher and his hastily put together team never come close to getting a scratch. Contrary to previous Reacher adventures, there is no sense of honor with this latest version. When it comes time to deal with several of the villains, he turns to a teammate asking for a figurative thumbs up or down, always getting the go ahead to execute unarmed, defenseless hoodlum with a bullet to the head or a quick snap of the neck. I’ve read all of the Reacher books with varying degrees of enjoyment, but after this really poor effort, I’m done.
