★★☆☆☆
Not as described! Cheaper substitute.
Totally dissatisfied with these. I expected containers like the endlessly useful ones I get from my local take-out joints, but these are much much lower quality. Three big problems: 1. They’re not made by Redditainer. I could have sworn the take-out containers I liked best were often marked “Redditainer,” which is why I looked for that brand specifically. But these are made by a different manufacturer entirely (Placon). There's no trace of a Redditainer brand online, so now I'm almost wondering if I hallucinated that. But then, why do I know the name?? Whatever, the point is, these aren't Redditaner. 2. The plastic is extremely soft and flexible. My old take-out cups are quite sturdy overall, with extra reinforcement around the upper rim-- if you try to squeeze them you can’t collapse them, and even though they come filled with boiling-hot soup they're still plenty stiff (stiff enough to easily drink or pour from). But these are so soft you can barely hold them without collapsing the rim, even when empty. If you fill one with water and try to pick it up without the lid on, just the weight of the water makes the whole thing want to fold up. Hand-washing in warm water makes them even floppier, so I wouldn’t dare try to fill these with anything even marginally hot-- it’s a burn waiting to happen. (I just used one to water a plant, and when I tipped it to pour, it collapsed so suddenly that water splashed everywhere. Good thing it was cool water!) 3. Speaking of heat, there’s no mark indicating that they’re microwave safe?? I can’t tell if they are, but given the floppy plastic, I'm not gonna risk it. I even checked Placon’s website, but I couldn’t get any info on that as it seems they don’t make this item anymore. All I gathered is that these were from their “value” line, not their “heavy-duty” line. Why am I not surprised. Grr. So yeah. Not Redditainer. Questionably microwave-safe. Not suitable for "extreme" anything; they're so flimsy they’re nearly useless (and possibly downright unsafe). In short: NOT AS DESCRIBED. The only accurate part of the description is that they hold 32 ounces and come with lids. To be honest, I feel more than a little ripped off. If I still had the box I’d return them, but I’m too annoyed to be bothered. (Lesson learned: always save the box.) After all these years I suppose I was due for an Amazon fail. Had to happen eventually. Sigh. Oh well. I guess I can use them to store lightweight dry things like nuts or whatever. Not what I wanted, but… there you go. :-/
